Purple Rose Nubby Dildo by Gläs

gn2I remember some roommates we had once, a couple, who were unsatisfied with their condoms. They gave us the box, saying if we liked them, we could have them.

They were Durex Intense condoms. Durex Intense advertises a texture made of extra large dots. I’d never put much stock in textured condoms, figuring that a little bit of thin latex wouldn’t make for very distinctive texture.

Boy, was I wrong.

I hated them. A couple minutes of penetration, and I told my partner to stop. My vagina was being rubbed raw by the abrasive latex studs. A texture slut I am decidedly not.

The Nubby gave me a similar experience (though even the Nubby isn’t quite as gn1uncomfortable as those condoms were). This is a testament to the fact that you should never shop horny. You may end up, like me, buying something that looks pretty, rather than buying a product that actually caters to your genital tastes.

This beautiful piece of sexual artistry from Gläs caught my eye, with it’s clear pink and purple stripes and compelling composition of bumps. The Nubby comes packaged in a simple white box with a lifesize photo of the toy on the front. I appreciate how minimal the box art is, no crazy colors or fonts, with so much info that it distracts from the toy.

However, considering the slim size of the dildo, the box seems overlarge, bordering on cavernous, especially considering that the Nubby does not come with a cloth pouch, only a wrapping of foamy paper and rubber bands.

gn4Glass is a fantastic material that will not break in use (if made correctly; by no means should this statement scare you off from trying glass!*), but the idea of the glass dildos knocking together in my sex toy box because a company couldn’t bother with a bag to put it in makes me really uncomfortable. Most people are raised on the idea that glass is a material to be babied, so habit makes me wish that this glass came with protection (such as matching nubby condoms?).

While glass is easy to take care of when it comes to cleaning, all of those little nubs require extra attention. Not only can gunk get easy caught on the toy, but the clear glass can make things even more difficult, since it can be hard to see where the gunk is hiding.

To clean, the Nubby can be washed with soap and water or put in the dishwasher. For sterilizing the toy, use 10% bleach solution followed by a wash, or boil it (put a cloth in the water for a barrier between the dildo and the pot so the glass isn’t knocking around).

Not only did I clean this dildo (as one should), I also had the distinct feeling that this dildo was cleaning me. The straight shape and dramatic texture made for an uncomfortable experience that left me feeling like I had scraped off a layer of skin, gn3leaving me sensitive and sore. The Nubby may be small, but it is mighty (similar to steel wool … for my vagina).

My masturbation style usually involves thrusting. I enjoy the feeling of getting pounded. This is not the dildo for that purpose. Simply holding this dildo inside me feels deplorable, never mind actually moving the damn thing.

If I’m really in the mood for some rough sex, I sometimes bring out the Nubby. Even in the most sadistic of moods, however, I can only last a minute or two with this dildo. My vagina just wasn’t meant for studs and abrasiveness.

I haven’t tried anything ribbed yet, but I can tell you that the Nubby is definitely not for me. Wait on getting something as textured as the Nubby until you become familiar with your genital preferences. This dildo is not for texture amateurs.

I bought this toy from the shop I work at for $22.95. I’ve had trouble finding Gläs on the internet, so I don’t have recommendations for places to find the Nubby! However, there is a similar product on Lovehoney. This article is based on my personal experiences.
